- Apr 25, 12Happy Wardrobe Wednesday! Vineyard Vines just unveiled their Derby collection and I have to say that I am mighty impressed! Job well done to the gents of the Northeast! My favorite thing about VV dresses is their ability to transition from dockside to dinner time (and even Derby-side!)! - Apr 18, 12"Great Blue Heron"The Great Blue Heron (a.k.a. Ardea herodias) can be located in marshes, coastlines and shores all over the continental US. It's another Chesapeake icon that anyone from the area is familiar with! A white version exists in the Southeast and is called the Great White Heron (I think I prefer our blue one ;-).
- Apr 13, 12"A Summer Afternoon"I submitted this image for consideration as the Chesapeake Bay Wine Festival's 2012 poster. The image was to capture everything about the Chesapeake (including food and wine). Fingers crossed it places well! If it doesn't, I'll still be making prints of it anyway because it puts a big ole' smile on my face! It was such a fun project and pushed the boundaries of my imagination (hafta do that every now and then!).Hoping everyone has an enjoyable weekend! xx
- Apr 10, 12I've said it before and I'll say it again, I just love custom portraits! I've been so fortunate to have such amazing patrons! My most recent works included a set of portraits done for two sisters who have been some of my biggest supporters. Needless to say, that when I found out they had no idea this was happening, I was even more excited. Also the eldest sister happens to be the one and only Let's Be Preppy (please go vote for her here to win a summer internship)! The "At the Beach" portrait was done from a photograph of them while they were younger and it just kills me it's too cute!"At the Stadium""Four Friends""At the Beach"The second round of portraits were for a dear buddy and ex-coworker. She's down at USC and her parents have since moved from Annapolis but once an Annapolitan always an Annapolitan. I originally had the dress a different color but Emma suggested we change it to pink and I think it turned out way better (feedback is the best way to ensure a happy result!)!"Prom"Another portrait was done as a gift for Mother's day! - Apr 03, 12"Strawberry Slushies"I'm sure anyone on Pinterest has seen this delectable image floating around. I just happened to have a bottle of bubbly on hand this past weekend and was feeling "p-inspired" (if you will). The recipe (from a bee-rilliant blog, Une Vie Saine) calls for homemade strawberry puree ice cubes made with honey. While this sounds absolutely amazing, it also looked terribly time consuming! Not being one to wait, I drove to the grocery store, picked up a pre-frozen carton of strawberries in sugar. Once I got to the mixin' machine, I poured in half the bottle of bubbly and the entire 16 oz. carton of strawberries and let it whiz away. The result was a hugely flavorful flute colored the richest of reds. Let me tell ya, this thing was T.A.S.T.Y. It was a little on the sweet side, so next time I make it I plan cutting the sugary strawberries in half and replacing it with regular kind. Has anyone else tried this one out? #treatyoself

- Mar 27, 12"Severn"This is portrait of my family pup. He's named after the river on which I grew up on and he's just the BEST. He's our little gentleman, he's 17 years old, enjoys reading Garden and Gun and wearing rugby shirts! This one sits proudly framed on my wall. - Mar 21, 12Milly is one of my all time favorite designers and her new collections sure haven't disappointed! Any designer who's "all about color this spring" is someone who's in good company! Also, Milly teamed up with Sperry Top-Sider for some of the most bee-rilliant boat shoes.
- Mar 21, 12"Thomas Point"My favorite lighthouse, the Thomas Point lighthouse is one of those classic and iconic pieces of Chesapeake Bay heritage (originally built in 1825, it has quite the history, check that out here). It also currently still acts as a navigational aid for the Bay waters. The lighthouse is a National Historic Landmark and is only one of ten lighthouses to be bestowed with that honor. - Mar 16, 12"M and A"Just wanted to share with everyone a portrait I did of my sister and a dear friend! Backstory: This was done from a photo that was taken on another birthday last year, so it's totally appropriate for the occasion! They were both wearing Lilly Pulitzer's print Peel and Eat (the one with the flamingos), so I tried my best to capture the print and I think it turned out pretty darn good!
- Mar 13, 12"Champagne Bottle #2""Kir Royale"The Kir, named for Dijon (Burgundy, France) mayor Félix Kir (around the 1940's), is a "before dinner" cocktail typically made with a dry white wine and crème de cassis (blackcurrant liqueur). According to the International Bartender's Association, the cocktail is composed of 1/10 crème de cassis and 9/10 white wine but this ratio has been heavily debated and has fluctuated over the years. It becomes the Kir Royale, when you swap in sparkling wine or champagne. Obviously, you'd want to choose a mid-grade option and save the Dom for another day. So when the mood strikes for some bubbles (whether before dinner, after or on a Thursday night), dust off your finest flutes and get to poppin' (corks and collars)! Is anyone else going to #treatyoself on this très jolie Tuesday?

- Mar 01, 12Fact: I love commission work! It's too much fun to get to know a client and create something special for them that is unique, one of a kind and entirely their own. Over the past few months I've been so fortunate to work with so many lovely people. Here are a few exciting examples...Erin, from the sunniest of states, FL, was just a peach to work with! She was looking for anniversary gifts and I was more than happy to oblige! Below is one of the pieces I created for her.Next up is Briana, from MD and Recipe for a Beautiful Life (her blog is a must-read). She wanted to create something special from her wedding day. Her wedding photographs came from Amy Raab Photography and the originals were amazing to work off of (Amy's very talented and Briana was such a gorgeous bride!). It was a great experience creating these keepsakes for Briana and her husband.Erin, also from MD and Let the Tide Pull Your Dreams Ashore, and I worked on some custom pieces for her blog! They all turned out so great, it was tough picking one to display here. It was such treat to work with her and I'm so thankful for her support!Stephen, MD, and his beau recently got engaged and were in need of something for their save the dates which resulted in this adorable piece! I'm so flattered to be a part of their nuptials in this special way (it's also very fitting, seeing as Stephen and I met in Design class sophomore year of college!).Commissioned designs can be great for remembering a favorite house, moment or even a pet! Additionally, I'm fond of donating "faceless portrait" packages to silent auctions and other fundraising events (I'm looking forward to being involved in an event called "Bowties and Belles" that benefits the Campagna Center of Alexandria, VA in May!).
